A Romantic Weekend That Turned Into a Lesson

We had just started dating, and he was low on money. I invited him to a romantic weekend, all expenses covered. We really connected-it all felt perfect. Five minutes after I dropped him home, my phone buzzed, and what I saw made my jaw clench. He had texted me just two words: “Not enough.” I couldn’t believe my eyes.

I chose not to write back because I didn’t even know what to say. That night, my best friend texted me: “You need to check your Facebook. NOW.” I started shaking when I saw that a girl had tagged him in a photo just 10 minutes earlier. They were at a romantic restaurant, having dinner. Her caption read, “I am the luckiest girl to call you my boyfriend.” I was so disgusted that I decided to take a break from dating for an entire year.
