I Repurposed My Stepdaughter’s Room — This Is Not Her House Anymore

My stepdaughter, 24, visits on weekends and sleeps in her old room. I needed room for my daily workouts (I’m a retired fitness instructor), so I removed her things and turned it into a small gym. She was angry, but I said, “My house, my rules!”

Next day, my own daughter called me in tears, asking me to go to her. I went to her house and saw the most horrific sight: her living room furniture was completely stained with detergent. Turns out my husband, in a fit of rage, had shown up at her place that morning with bottles of detergent and poured the liquid all over her furniture. My daughter said he’d shouted, “Tell your mother: My money, my rules!” Last year, when my daughter got married, we had gifted her this furniture set-my husband had paid for it. And now, he’d done this to get back at me. I’m stunned by how petty and immature his behavior was! All I wanted was a little space in my own house, and he took it out on my poor daughter.

Do you think I should have acted differently?
