The Day a Stranger Taught Me to Stand Up for Myself

I had a fight with my boyfriend, and he made me leave our home. At work, I was crying, and my boss offered me a place to stay, explaining it to his wife. Though she seemed unhappy at first, she came over and said, “Get in the car.” On the drive, I told her about my three years with him.

When we arrived, she stood by me as we knocked on the door. She threatened to call the police if he didn’t leave, mentioning his past thefts from me. Her firmness scared him into agreeing. I moved back in and sold the house two months later. I never spoke to him again, but that day taught me to stand up for myself and protect my rights.
